In The Meantime...

More watercolor critters! These are all basically just glorified doodles. I just sit down and think very little and let the critter happen. It's not much in the way of showing process, but it's a fun way to practice watercolor :)

A Taste of Things to Come

Just to give everyone an idea of what's going on behind-the-scenes right now with my final projects: I've got a whole new set of Alfonse & Domingo pages I'm bringing into color in the next two/three weeks, and here are some blurry little color studies for the final :)

Enjoy!

Nick Kole Learns to Watercolor

Well, this semester I've been teaching myself how to watercolor.
These are the first three of a series of twelve watercolor creature/character designs I'm working on for class. Generally speaking I'm developing some of these in the Alfonse & Domingo-verse...so some of these may be reappearing.

Below are some watercolor studies from a few weeks back. The landscapes are 1-hour each and the portrait is an in-class model portrait.

Cheers!

Alfonse & Domingo!

More legible (larger) size viewable here!

This was my comic final last semester :) A little four-page comic titled Alfonse & Domingo: Going Home. Alfonse is the beardsley man in the hat and Domingo is the flying manta-ray.

I've been developing the story and the world and have started in on a much larger and altered version of the story. Alot has changed and I'm really excited about putting it together and getting it out there. I'll be coloring and polishing the first five pages of it over the next few weeks, but for your viewing pleasure here are some sketches:

(Here you go finally, mom!)
The biggest change is Alfonse himself. I decided I wasn't very interested in telling a story about a burly 20-something :p
So: an awkward kid with a big nose and a pony-tail who smiles alot...

Here are some more sketches while prepping for the story. Some freight-hauling creatures that appear in the first 10 pages on Alfonse's way to market, and a little portrait of Alfonse's rival Raoul.

Hope you enjoy them! there's more where that came from!

The Blog is Begun!

Well, hello everyone!
I'm Nicholas Kole. At the time of my writing this, I am a 20 year old student at the Rhode Island School of Design and this is my art blog!
I'll be posting sketches and such here on a semi-regular basis, so check back here often for new updates! A backlog and collection of finished work can be seen at my deviantART gallery:

To start, some pieces from last semester done for a comics class. A three page ministory called Windlord, and a set of color keys for a hypothetical animated film based on the biblical story of David.

Windlord is all my own creation...the characters therein are Nathaniel Phayden (roaming exiled wind-mage) and Giovanni DiGrecio (robust and rotund airship merchant).

These are color studies for six scenes from the story of David (not in chronological order)
From top to bottom, left to right, they are:

David vs. Goliath
The Ark Return to Jerusalem
The Death of Saul
David & Bathsheba
David is Annointed King
and
Saul Consults the Oracle

Have fun and enjoy!
